My husband Bob and I live in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains, in the small town of Pollock Pines, in Northern California.  We retired here in 2004 from San Diego, seeking a change of scenery - from palm trees and balmy weather to pine trees and four very distinct seasons.

Before my early retirement I worked as a credit manager in various large organizations throughout Southern California.  While working I went to school at night and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.

I am the proud mother of Shawna, age 34, who is one of the oldest known Rasmussen’s Syndrome cases today, and Gary, age 28, Shawna’s devoted younger brother.  Fortunately for me, both my children also made the move to Northern California and live nearby.

My favorite pastime is gardening and working in my yard, but I also enjoy non-fiction writing.  Most of what I have written relates to my personal experiences with Shawna,  and my one published work in 1980 relays the story of her hemispherectomy.  Maybe some day I’ll write about something else, like a how-to article on gardening in the forest with a million deer and raccoons eating your plants!

Meanwhile, I am thrilled to be a contributor to this wonderful organization and hope my experiences may help others just beginning this journey.
